my favorite thing about kuala lumpur was jamil ismael--a man who adopts streetcats--he's got 84 and counting. cats in malaysia have it rough--most malay people think they're just a step above rats. there are soooo many street cats who have to scrounge through the trash just to stay alive... you can tell people treat them poorly because 9 times out of 10 if you approach a cat it will look terrified and run away--not like thailand where street animals are (relatively) taken care of. anyway, jamil rides around town on his motorbike with the cats who are trained to stay on. then he parks it and collects donations for their food and medication. he is a very good man. and the cats are amazing! they stay on the bike, lounging and purring... once in a while he will have to reprimand this or that cat for stepping on one of the other guys, (they all have their spots where they're supposed to stay on the bike), but for the most part the cats just stay put. it's one of the most amazing things i've ever seen!
